We are a week into November and the Christmas adverts are already on our televisions, the songs are playing in stores across the country and decorations are available to buy everywhere! Everyone is either starting to prepare or well on their way to being ready for the big day in December, and some of you might be thinking about clothing to keep you warm in the cold weather. In today's blog, I'll be talking about a few Dressmaking Fabrics that we recommend to our customers for using in dressmaking projects over the chilly months.
Double Knit Jersey - This fabric is a beautiful, heavyweight jersey that is fantastic to use and is one of my personal favourites; I use it for making a dress every December to wear to my family's annual Christmas Eve tradition of bowling and a meal out at a restaurant. It is available in a good selection of lovely colours and is not only great to work with but also feels fantastic to wear.
Fleece - Our fleece fabrics are a customer favourite whatever the time of year, and we stock an amazing range of colours and patterns to suit everyone's needs. All of our fleece is anti-pill, which means that it will not form those characteristic 'bobbles' after repeated washing. It is a great choice for gilets, jackets and even snuggly pyjamas to keep you cosy at night.
Melton - This lovely, heavyweight fabric is absolutely perfect for making warm winter coats, and works wonderfully when paired with our polyester dress lining. Despite its weight, it doesn't feel heavy when worn, meaning it is not a hassle to wear and is bound to keep you nice and warm in the cold weather.
Winter Fabrics - In this section of our website and store, we have a large selection of gorgeous fabrics, including wools, polyesters and others that are a fantastic choice for winter wear. The patterns available can be used to dress up or down; I am hoping to make a few casual dresses to wear over the winter before the warm weather returns next year!
Brushed Cotton - This fabric is a good choice for pyjamas, because they are lightweight enough not to feel restrictive but will still keep you warm at night over the Christmas season. We have plenty of different checks available that include all sorts of colour combinations, so whatever your tastes there is bound to be something that will suit you.
Have you used any of these fabrics yourself? Do you have a favourite Dressmaking Fabric to use for your winter projects? Let us know on our Facebook page - we love to hear back from our customers!
