If you are thinking about making your own dress or skirt then one of the first things you will need to consider is what Dressmaking Fabrics you are going to use. The main thing to consider will be what time of the year you are planning on using wearing your latest creation. For example you don't really want to be wearing a chiffon dress during the winter months!!!
This brings me onto the some of the different types of Dressmaking Fabrics that we sell here at Calico Laine and what they are ideally used for:
- Taffeta Fabrics: Â This fabric is a really nice dressmaking fabric. The Taffeta we sell here at Calico Laine is a German made fabric that is 150cm wide and comes in over 15 different colours. This is ideal for dresses, bridal wear and prom dresses.
- Duchess Satin: A classic Dressmaking Fabric, we offer a couple of different options in our duchess satins. These include heavy weight duchess satin, a supersoft duchess satin and a medium weight version. All of these satins are ideal for dressmaking and are also all 150cm wide.
- Chiffon: A beautiful fabric, chiffon is very popular at present in both the high street and on the catwalk. Our range of chiffons include the plain chiffon fabric and printed chiffon fabrics. These both vary in width from 115cm wide through to 150cm wide in the printed chiffons.
- Dress Lining: Any good dress will need a lining of sorts and here at Calico Laine we offer an anti static dress lining that is 150cm wide. This range is available in over 100 different colours so you can be sure to find a lining to match!!!
- Jersey Fabric: One of the great thing about jersey fabrics at Calico Laine is the sheer choice of different weight and options available. We offer a cotton jersey, a heavier double knit jersey and also a lovely viscose jersey. All of these are ideal for dressmaking purposes.
