The most romantic evening of the year is just over a month away and if your planning on going out you are going to need a smart new outfit! If like me you are a keen sewer and love to make dresses then now is the time to start planning your dress for Valentines Day. Some of the most popular fabrics to use when making your own dresses include:

Duchess Satin: This is a heavy matt satin that is perfect for dresses and skirts. It is 150cm wide and prices at only £8.99 per metre.

Chiffon: This elegant sheer fabric is ideal to layer on top of a a heavier fabric. Chiffon comes in a great range of both colours and widths. Crepe: With Valentines Day being in February it is still fairly cold. Fear not, the crepe is perfect for dressmaking but also for adding a little extra warmth. Microfibre: These beautiful peach skin fabrics really are amazing and make up wonderfully well as dresses and skirts. They come a lovely choice of colours aa well. The Dressmaking Fabrics I have listed above are some of my personal favourites but we really do have a lot more to choose from here at Calico Laine. Please do feel free to browse the site and get some ideas for your perfect dress. Remember as well we offer samples of our fabrics so you can see the item before you commit to buy. This should hopefully give you added piece of mind. I hope yopu have enjoyed todays blog on Dressmaking.
