As the year comes to a close, here at Calico Laine we’ve been looking at which colours are chic for Spring 2014. We love colour and nothing gets us more excited than combining two of our favourite hobbies, fashion and sewing.  Fashion is ever changing with styles looping in and out and modernising each generation. The bridal world is no exception with 2014 honouring some fantastic shades and styles. This spring black and white, a timeless classic is bigger than ever. The bold combination can be paired up perfectly with any shade of grey. Here at Calico Laine we’ve seen an increased demand for greys right across all our fabric ranges with new colours constantly being added.  There are two new lovely shades of grey in our winter melton fabrics, a stunning silver grey as well as a charcoal. I’m a big fan of charcoal as I feel it’s an interesting alternative to black. The bamboo jersey is a lovely new range for 2014; it’s an excellent quality fabric with a beautiful weight ideal for both day and evening wear. This line is becoming one of our best sellers, especially the grey. Different shades of grey can also be seen across our bridal lines, we have a new silver duchess satin, a grey cationic chiffon and two stunning greys in the versatile satin back dupion. Mint, lilac, and lemon are only a few of the ice-cream shades we’ll see on the catwalk this spring. The full range of pastels means that there’ll be something to match every skin tone. We all love the warmer weather; spring means that summer is only around the corner. There’s nothing I love more than making summer dresses. The choice of fabric is wonderful, the Rose and Hubble prints in particular offer some pretty pastel patterns, they’re easy to work with and an excellent price too. If you’re a little bolder then brighter shades like yellow, orange and cerise are also going to very big. This trend is reflected in our ranges of crepes, microfibre and corded lace. Lace fabric has been fashionable for a while now, both on the high street and for bridal and the look continues to remain popular for next year too. Why not combine a colourful lace with alternative coloured plain as the block colouring trend also remains fashionable. Your choices are endless, you just need a little imagination. Until next time, Calico Laine
