These Dress Linings are ideal to be used with stretch fabrics such as Lycra, Stretch Jersey and many more.  In todays blog entry we will be talking you through the many different stretch fabrics available from our stores and online.
Stretch fabrics are normally split into two categories. Â 2-way stretch and 4-way stretch. Â 2-way stretch fabrics are fabrics which stretch in one direction whereas 4-way stretch are fabrics which stretch in both directions, crosswise and lengthwise.
Stretch Dress  Lining - dressmaking fabrics are often lined for comfort making them more comfortable to be worn against the skin.  Stretch Dress Lining Fabrics are ideal to be used alongside Stretch Dressmaking Fabrics in order to maintain the stretch quality of your fabric whilst providing the structure and durability you require.
Lycra Jersey - this is a beautiful material which is very stretchy providing movement and comfort. Â Due to its smart, elegant finish it is perfect for evening wear. Â Our Lycra Jersey is made from 80% polyester and 20% lycra in a range of eye catching colours.
Lycra - Lycra is a synthetic material known for its exceptional elasticity.  This fabric has a 4-way stretch and due to its flexibility and breathable quality this is the ideal fabric for sports wear, dance and ice skating costumes.  Lycra can be stretched to several times its original size but will retain its shape.  This is an excellent fabric for dressmaking purposes as it will not fray when cut.  Our range of Lycra is available in a wide range of stunning and vibrant colours.
Cotton Jersey - this 2-way stretch fabric is t-shirt weight and is popular because of its soft handle and drape. Â This fabric is 100% cotton and has a completely matte finish.
Viscose Jersey - This is also a 4-way stretch fabric but differs from Lycra in that it has a completely matte finish.  This fabric is excellent value for money and due to its wonderfully soft feel and how it drapes so beautifully this is the ideal fabric for creating maxi dresses, skirts and tops.
Double Knit Jersey - This heavier weight jersey fabric is perfect for the colder winter temperatures. Â It hugs the body and drapes very well when worn. Â Hence its name, jersey was first created in Jersey, Channel Islands.
