We stock many Silk Devoire fabrics here at Calico Laine and they sell extremely well. They are beautiful fabrics and look stunning when made up, there is also a huge variety of colours available to you. The good thing about silk is it can be worn all year round they are warm in the winter but cool in the summer. Our Silk Devoire Fabrics are made from 82% Viscose / 18% Silk and are about 112 cm wide and are dry clean only. When working with Silk you will notice that it is extremely hard to make the pins stay in the fabric and sew in a straight line. Here is a little tip for you; when placing your pins simply add a piece of paper to the back of the fabric as this makes the fabric more sturdy to hold the pins and you can also sew over the paper too. This is also good for sewing in a straight line as there is more substance so it isn't as slippy under the machine. All you then have to do is rip the paper from the back when complete. I recently finished making a silk scarf with one of our Silk Devoires which was really easy to do. To start all that I did was cut out a square of about 90cm each side and hemmed the sides with an over locker. I didn't really add much detail but you could add a trim of lace or pom poms to each side to make it slightly more detailed. I have also made up some stunning dresses from this fabric. I hope this helps. For any questions please feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail, we're always happy to help.
