Whether you're Sewing that beautiful evening gown or a cool, billowing blouse for everyday wear, it's important to choose the right fabric to work with. Using a sheer fabric can completely change the look of a garment, or add a new dimension to one by acting as a floaty overlay. In today's blog, we'll be talking about the sheer fabrics that we have available here at Calico Laine for you to purchase and use in your own sewing projects.
Chiffon - Currently available in thirteen different colours, our chiffon is great value for money and is lovely to work with. It is 100% polyester, and as well as being fantastic to use for clothing such as blouses and dresses, it is also a good choice for accessories such as scarves.
Extra Wide Chiffon - If you need our chiffon in a larger width for your sewing project, then our extra wide chiffon is perfect for you. Available in a number of colours that compliment the shades available in some of our other ranges such as our duchess satin fabrics, the extra wide chiffon is a great choice if you're sewing something that requires long, flowing pieces of fabric.
Cationic Chiffon - Possibly our most popular sheer fabric, our cationic chiffon is available in a multitude of colours. The fabric has a wonderful drape and a silk-like feel, and is perfect to use for overlays on formal clothing. Colours can also be mixed together, layer by layer, for your own individual look and unique results.
Georgette - If your sewing project requires a sheer fabric with more body than our regular chiffon, then we recommend our georgette fabric; while it is still lightweight and flows extremely well, it has a heavier weight and feel to it than chiffon and is a popular choice for bridal gowns.
Crinkled Yoryu - If you are after a chiffon that has a different look to our plain chiffons, then take a look at our crinkled yoryu fabrics. The texture and feel of this fabric is amazing, and it drapes beautifully. It is available to purchase in a number of bright, eye-catching colours; perfect for when you want your garment to stand out.
Have you ever used any of these fabrics in any sewing projects of your own? Take a photograph and upload it to our Facebook page - we love seeing the end results of any customer's design!
