Many of our creative customers may be hoping that they receive a brand new sewing machine this Christmas to help them with all their projects or to get them started with dressmaking. Although Santa may bring a new bit of kit for you he may have forgotten those added extras! It is important that along with your new sewing machine you have all the Machine Accessories that you need to keep you going.
Here are some of the items that you may need in your sewing box just in case:
Bobbins/ Spools: Whether your machine takes plastic or metal spools it is important to have plenty of these so you can have different colours on the bobbin to match the thread for your project. It is best to have a number of these so you do not need to keep taking thread on and off your bobbins.
Bobbin Organizer:Â To make sure all your bobbins are kept safe and sound it is very useful to have a bobbin organiser. We sell a See-Through Bobbin Organizer so it is easy to see what colours you have.
Machine Needles: It is inevitable that when you are using your machine you may break some needles so it is always important to have some spare. Machine needles come in a number of different sizes to suit all different weights of fabric so it is best to have a few different packs so you have all sizes just in case.
General Purpose Oil:Â It is important to keep your sewing machine well maintained to keep it running smoothly. It is a good idea to regularly clean it, replace needles and oil your machine. Check in your manual for parts that need oiling and avoid any plastic parts. Oiling your machine will keep it running well and avoid rust and corrosion. Our Janome General Purpose Lubricating Oil is ideal for this.
If you are lucky enough to receive a new machine for Christmas we would love to see the projects you have made with it. Please post a picture to show us on our Facebook or Twitter page.
Merry Christmas,
Laura
