This week saw the sad passing of fashion's biggest names Oscar De La Renta after a long battle with cancer. Dominican Republic born Oscar worked with names such as Lanvin and Balenciaga when he was younger before setting up his own New York based label in the sixties. A favourite with socialites, models and first ladies his designs were fun and feminine. In recent years we have seen him creating outfits for the red carpet for stars such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Taylor Swift. Here we are taking a look at a few of his creations using Satin Fabric.

One of the most memorable Oscar De La Renta designs of recent times was his custom made dress for Taylor Swift which she wore to the 2014 Met Gala. The dress had a long, flowing Satin Fabric train which was so long Taylor had to be helped up the stairs. The garment was a pale pink satin with a deep V cut in the back and intricate detailing over the majority of the dress. At the back of the dress, the Satin Fabric was tied into a big bow which made Taylor really stand out. This week, Taylor tweeted regarding Oscar's death, "My all-time favourite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honour to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory."
At the same event, Sarah Jessica Parker wore a panelled Satin Fabric ball gown which had Oscar's name embroidered in red into the bottom of the skirt for everyone to admire. Sarah Jessica Parker had worked with De La Renta for the last 15 years and many of his designs were even seen in Sex and the City worn by her character Carrie. The dress worn at the Met Ball was extravagant and was a collaboration between the two of them.
As well as creating dresses for celebrities and first ladies, Oscar De La Renta's fashion house create bridal wear and their latest collection features a lot of Satin Fabric. One his most famous wedding gowns was created for actress Kate Bosworth when she wed last year. She wore a strapless ivory gown which was very minimalist with no embroidery or embellishment. Even though there was no decoration on the gown, the shape of the dress with its full skirt and dramatic train made it a stunning outfit which suited Kate's personality perfectly.
