The Prom season is nearly upon us and for some people this means panicking and wandering around the shops trying to find that perfect dress. Well why not have your dress made so it is original and exactly what you want? Below I have listed some of the most popular fabrics that prom dresses can made out of and these include, Fabrics
  • Duchess Satin- Typically used for Bridal and evening wear so it is a perfect fabric to use. It is a good heavy weight and is exceptionally good quality. It doesn't flow as much as a lot of fabrics so it is a wonderufl fabric to make a princess line dress.
  • Cationic Chiffon- This is a beautiful fabric, it is extremely light weight and flows wonderfully. It is iridescent and has a slight sheer to it,  so it isn't the same as the normal Chiffon. Our Cationic chiffon is 140cm and available in dozens of colours including Pink, Purple, White, Ivory, silver, Mocha, Gold and so many more. This would make an excellent top layer of a dress or draped down the sides and back of the dress to show the fabric underneath. If you would like a plainer chiffon then try our extra-wide chiffon at 140cm wide or our 115cm chiffon- both available in a huge amount of colours.
  • Taffeta- This is quite a stiff Fabric but not as stiff as Duchess Satin. It would make a stunning full circle skirt and a sweetheart neckline as the fabric drapes nicely but doesn't flow too much. It is 100% polyester and 150cm wide.
Diamante
  • Acrylic Jewels- These will add sparkle to any dress in a simple but effective way. You will need to glue these on, I would suggest our Gem Tac glue, this glue is washable in a 30 degree wash, dries clear and more importantly is non-toxic. The Acrylic Jewels are available in 3 sizes- 3mm, 4.5mm and 6mm. There are many colours available so I am sure there will be a colour for you.
  • Diamante Buckles or Diamante Brooch- There are huge amounts of these available and they would look beautiful on the empire line of a dress with some ribbon.
  • Glass Crystal Stones- Sew on or clip on. You could scatter them around your dress to make it sparkle in the light without the gems being too prominent.  If you are using the slip on stones then you will need to make sure you put some fabric in the inside of the dress, good fabrics to use are iron on interfacing to stop the spikes irritating the skin or simply just adding a layer of our polyester, anti-static dress lining.
  • Glass Crystal Trim- This could be perfect to make your straps out of or even to add sparkle around your empire line. These are available in different widths and colours and are all sew on.
