All dressmakers have there favourite fabrics that they like to use when making a new dress. My two favourite materials are Duchess Satins and the new Double Knit Jersey. I find both of these fabrics an absolute joy to work with. Although both fabrics are different I find them both perfect for creating dresses and skirts with. Both of these materials are 150cm as well, again making them an excellent choice when dressmaking. Double Knit Jersey: This is a heavy weight jersey fabric. It has all way stretch to it and feels smooth to the touch. It is a heavy warm fabric that I think makes into lovely warm winter dresses or skirts. It really is a top quality fabric. This fabric has sold really well, so much so that we have extended the colour range this winter! Duchess Satin: A mainstay fabric for all dressmakers, we have sold this particular quality of duchess for many years and it's popularity never seems to diminish. It is a heavy firm material that is perfect for bridal events, christening and birthday parties. This is also 150cm wide. I have talked here about my two personal favourite fabrics but we also offer a number of other different dressmaking materials. Another very popular fabric is the Crepe. This is heavy weight fabric, making it ideal for winter dressmaking projects. One thing we particularly enjoy here at Calico Laine is hearing back from our customers about the fabrics they have used from us. If you have used any of our fabrics then please do share your thoughts and comments with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages. It is always helpful to us and other customers to see other peoples creations. I hope you have enjoyed today's blog and it has been of some use to you, Until next time, Calico Laine
