Here at Calico Laine we stock a huge amount of different Zips, most of our Zips are made by a company called YKK a well known company in the textile world. They really are an excellent quality zip and extremely durable.
Open End Zips
There are different types of Open End Zips these include plastic, nylon, metal, heavy duty brass or basque Zips.
- Platic Open End Zips - These are also known as the Chunky Open End Zips, the teeth are much chunkier than the Nylon. The Zips are usually found on items such as jackets or fleeces.
- Nylon Open End Zips - They may look less durable than the Plastic Zips because their teeth are smaller, but they are just as strong as each other. If anything I would probably go for the Nylon Open End Zips.
- Brass Zips - They are very hard wearing and really do look very nice. They exceed the british standards for strength and durability and are extremely hard wearing. The sizes range from 22" to 30", there are a few colours available including black, brown, fawn, green and navy.
- Basque Zips - These are much lighter than any of the other open ended Zips and come in a smaller length: 10", 12" and 16". As the name of the zips point out, they are typically used for basques or corsets, but I'm sure you can use them for various other items of clothing. The colours available are black, white and ivory.
- Heavy Duty Zips - Â These are available only in black but they can be bought in sizes from 14" to 30", the teeth are metal and are extremely strong. They would be very useful on items such as leather jackets or bikers leathers.
