Next week is a time that a lot of Mums will be looking forward to, the start of school! For many it has been a long six weeks and they will be glad of a few hours to themselves during the day while the little ones are back at school. It always seems that once the kids go back to school that the weeks go by so fast and before we know it, it will be Christmas. So as crazy as it seems, if you like to sew and like to make your own clothes, now is the time to be thinking of what Dress Fabrics you might use for making those festive party outfits. Recently at Calico Laine we have been looking at the trends of autumn 2017 and one of the trends that stands out is metallics, shiny fabric and 'Space Age Glitz'. For many people, this might sound a little scary and you may not want to make a full outfit in a bright shiny fabric but you can achieve the trend without looking like a spaceman! One of the best Dress Fabrics for this trend is the new addition to our evening wear range called moonlight fabric. This is a sheer fabric with a 'sparkle' effect on it to give it a shimmer which will create a metallic feel without being too 'in your face'. As it is a sheer Dress Fabric it is perfect as an overlay fabric to another fabric to create a bit of interesting on what might otherwise be quite a plain outfit. It could also be used to create a wrap for a dress so that you will have just a hint of metallic, being on trend without going the 'whole hog'! Moonlight is a eye catching Dress Fabric made from 30% polyester and 70% nylon. It comes in a number of different colours including a warm nutmeg shade, a vibrant cobalt, teal and the on trend nickel silver amongst others. The moonlight fabric would be great for creating an overlay on a skirt or a dress and at £7.99 per metre it won't break the bank but will look like something that has come straight off the catwalk! Another Dress Fabric that would work well for the 'Space Age' trend would be our computer foil fabrics. These also have a metallic look to them and due their lightweight drape, they would be perfect for a simple dress with an unusual and stunning aesthetic. Ideal for a dress for the festive season.
