Last week saw celebrities gathering for the annual Met Ball in New York. Formally known as the Costume Institute Gala or Met Gala, the ball is a fundraising event to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute as well as being the official opening for the annual fashion exhibition at MOMA. It is attended by A list celebrities and is seen as one of the top red carpet events of the year. Last year saw celebrities wearing punk inspired outfits whereas this year saw a return to more glamourous and elegant styles. The red carpet saw a lot of flowing and draping dresses which can be recreated at home when you Buy Fabric from our collection.

One of the best dressed celebrities this year was Blake Lively, of Gossip Girl fame. She was the epitome of 'old school' Hollywood glamour and wore a cape style, figure hugging dress created by Gucci in a neutral colour. If you are looking to Buy Fabric to recreate this look, you could use a cationic chiffon to give you the light draping effect and use a lycra jersey underneath as a lining to give the structure to allow the dress to fit the form of your body. Sequins and beads could then be added for decoration over the garment.

Another celebrity who looked stunning was Jessica Alba in another neutral coloured dress, this time designed by Diane von Furstenburg. With just a small clutch bag to accessorize, Jessica was not too overstated or over the top. If you are looking to Buy Fabric to recreate this look, why not choose a corded lace over a layer of microfibre or perhaps a crepe fabric with a lightweight lace.
[caption id="attachment_6925" align="alignleft" width="230"] Hailee Steinfeld wearing black and white[/caption]
One of the younger stars on the red carpet, Hailee Steinfeld, star of True Grit opted for a Prabal Gurung gown in black and white which looked both modern and glamorous. It fitted in perfectly with vogue editor, Anna Wintour's suggestion of 'white tie and diamonds' dress code and many journalists have named her as 'best dressed' on the night. If you are looking to Buy Fabric to recreate this look for a prom or 'black tie' special occasion, you could use a couple of different fabrics. This dress would look great made from duchess satin but would look equally good made from a taffeta fabric. Which celebrity did you think looked best on the night?
