One of the biggest events of the year in our neck of the woods is of course the Aintree Races. The biggest and possibly the best horse racing meeting in the country is also one of the biggest weekends for fashion and the ladies of Liverpool are famous for the fashionable outfits, outlandish headpieces and gravity defying shoes that grace the famous racecourse over the course of the weekend and if you really want to see the cream of the crop putting their best fashion foot forwards then Ladies Day is the day to do it. As with any of the big race meetings, there is a strict dress code in place. Ladies are required to wear smart dress and strictly no denim or trainers are allowed. With big prizes on offer for the Best Dressed ladies, including up to £5000 in cash, it is no wonder that the cream of the fashion crop spend months in advance planning their outfits. In the run up to the big weekend we see a huge rise in the sale of many of our most glamorous Dressmaking Fabrics and one of the most popular ranges favoured by race-goers is our range of Satin Dressmaking Fabrics.
Satin Dressmaking Fabric is one of our most popular fabrics for any special occasion and it is due to the popularity of Satin that our team of buyers have spent many months and years dedicating themselves to amassing a gorgeous collection of Satin Dressmaking Fabrics including almost every kind of Satin that you can think of. Satin is a basic weave Dressmaking Fabric which is popular for it's lustrous, glossy surface. Satin fabric was first imported from the Chinese city of Zayton back in the middle ages and has been used in the manufacture of high end clothing items for centuries. Satin Dressmaking Fabric has been traded within Europe since around the 14th Century, however at this time it was considered to be such a luxurious fabric that it was only ever worn by the very highest members of society and in particular, royalty. Thanks to the Industrial Revolution and the advent of brand new manufacturing processes, Satin was soon to become a much more affordable and accessible fabric. Over the last few decades, Satin has continued to rise in popularity and is now one of the first fabrics many dressmakers turn to when creating a special occasion outfit and is most often used in the manufacture of prom dresses and cocktail gowns.
When it comes to the races, and in particular Ladies Day, we see a huge rise of enquiries about our Satin Dressmaking Fabrics and the one that is always particularly in demand is our beautiful Duchess Satin. Always one of our most popular Dressmaking Fabrics, Duchess Satin is a stunning, high end fabric and is the preferred choice for many when creating elegant evening gowns. Duchess Satin is distinguishable from other Satin Dressmaking Fabrics due to it's higher thread count, resulting in it's heavyweight feel, beautiful drape and luxurious appearance. Alternative Satin Dressmaking Fabrics include Super Soft Duchess Satin Fabric which shares the same luxurious qualities as Duchess Satin but with a special finish which gives this fabric it's beautifully soft handle. If you are looking for a reversible Satin fabric, or a fabric with a more matte appearance, it is worth considering our Satin Back Crepe and Satin Back Dupion collections.

Satin Dressmaking Fabrics are still one of the most popular choices on the market and by creating a stunning, custom made gown from Satin you can be sure to turn heads on Ladies Day or at any other special event. Celebrities all over the globe have been seen gracing red carpets or making VIP appearances draped in lustrously elegant Satin fabrics including pop superstar Katy Perry who arrived at the 2013 MTV EMA Awards in a very ladylike gown sewn using a pastel blue Satin Dressmaking Fabric. This is a perfect look to recreate for the races and with the addition of the requisite headpiece or fascinator you can be sure you will turn heads on the racecourse and may even find yourself on the podium as the best dressed lady!
