Firstly unpick the stitching from around the original zip using tweezers, it is best to start at the bottom and work your way up. Once you have unpicked the stitching you will be able to decide whether the whole zip needs replacing or if its just the runner that is to be replaced. The runner is zip teeth part, this is the most common part to fail on a zip. If you have decided that the runner needs repairing, then using your pliers pull out the stop at the bottom of the zip, taking care to remove te slide, the teeth should then fall back into place.
Replacing a Zip:
If the zip needs replacing all together then as above ensure all the stitching has been unpicked and replace the zip by sliding it into position and fixing it into place using a strong cotton thread. It is also wise to use a stronger zip then before, in order to ensure it withstands daily use.
