This week and next, the kids will start going back to school after what may seem to many, a very long summer holiday. When the summer holidays are over many people begin thinking about Christmas but before Christmas comes along their is another day that the kids love to celebrate, Halloween! Halloween is a big holiday in the United States with kids and adults joining in with some amazing fancy dress costumes and over the last few years especially, it has become a bigger celebration in Britain too. At Calico Laine we specialise in dressmaking fabrics and have everything you might need for making a fun fancy dress costume for Halloween or decorating the house for this spooky day.
Here at Calico Laine we sell a number of fabrics that would be ideal for creating festive costumes and decorations for your house as well as a number of halloween themed ribbons to add to your décor. One of my personal favourite fabrics for all hallow's eve is our day of the dead fabric which is available in black and ivory. This fabric is based on the Mexican celebration, Day of The Dead, which similarly to halloween is based around those that have passed and is to encourage their spiritual journey. This fabric features skeletons, dressed in traditional Mexican clothing, dancing, singing and partying and is a great fabric, especially in black, to be used as tablecloths and drapes on the 31st October. On a similar day of the dead theme, we have recently added some new fabrics to our Calico Laine website featuring Mexican sugar skulls. This fabric is fine net with multi coloured metallic sugar skulls across it to create a particularly spooky finish. This would be ideal for creating drapes in your home as Halloween decoration and will entice trick or treaters to your door.
Other fabrics at Calico Laine that are great for fancy dress at this time of year are our range of faux furs. These are a short pile fur and come in a number of colours perfect for Halloween including grey, black, red and flo orange. These can be used for creating spider outfits, werewolf costumes and even the hair on Frankenstein's monster. Another fabric which is always useful is plain black fabric. We have a number of black materials with our most popular being black polycotton, black cotton plain and black bi-stretch. For the girls, dress net is always a great choice as with a little bit of creativity you can make a quick and easy tutu for a witch or cat costume.
If you have any pictures of your past Halloween decorations and costumes made from our fabrics why not post a picture on our facebook page. We would love to see your creations.
