Today we’re going to discuss a few of my of favourite Haberdashery products, Vilene. I particularly like using this brand of interfacings and interlinings as Vilene are renowned for their excellent quality products. Vilene is a German based company who delegate a whole team of people to design innovative products which are used by professionals and home crafters alike, which is what makes Vilene one of the best selling Haberdashery products we carry.  With over 60 years of experience combined with their unrivalled expertise, Vilene has become a world leader in their field with a flawless reputation, it’s no wonder we love using and selling their products in our Haberdashery department. My favourite Vilene product is definitely the bondaweb. The Bondaweb is the same product as wonderweb which is used to take up a hem but in a sheet form. The bondaweb has a greaseproof backing and is used for ironing one piece of fabric to another.  You simply cut your bondaweb to the same size as your appliqué or motif, iron over the greaseproof paper, peel off the greaseproof paper, then iron your appliqué/motif to your project. Bondaweb can be used on all kinds of fabric and Haberdashery items from felt and cotton to more specialised fabrics like leather or webbings. Bondaweb can also be used to cardboard and paper so it’s also a great item to have in your Haberdashery collection. I always use a lot of bondaweb at Christmas time for making stockings, tree decorations or fancy gift tags and find that our Haberdashery department are inundated with queries about this product all year round. Another product I particularly like is the Vilene S80/240. This is an extra heavy sew in interfacing which I’ve used many times. Last year I made a fabulous pelmet and matching tie backs for my living room. The S80/240 was ideal because it’s easy to work and the heavy weight means it’ll keep its shape. More recently I made a handbag and used the S80/240 to reinforce it. I made some beaded butterflies and was able to bondaweb them onto the front. The best thing is my bag is fully washable. Here at Calico Laine our Haberdashery department have been selling a lot of the S80/240 interfacing for the new craze of making postcards. I’ve yet to try this but I’m eager to give it a go after reading up on the internet. This interfacing which can be found in our Haberdashery department in store and also online, is the ideal weight for postcards, it can also be written on, inked up and appliquéd into.
