Tie dye is a major trend at the moment, with the design predominantly on T-Shirts. Popular bands such as Panic! at the Disco have begun to use the design on merchandise and celebrities such as Rihanna are even wearing the design on leggings!
For Rihanna's look, I would recommend the China Blue dylon which can be found in our Haberdashery department for £3.99.

For the Panic! at the Disco look, I recommend the use of Sunflower Yellow, Tropical Green, Tulip Red and Ocean Blue dylon.

Before you tie dye, it is recommended that you use Dylon Pre-Dye, which we sell for £7.99 in our Haberdashery department. This brings out the neutral shades in your fabric, preparing it for dyeing.
Many different patterns can be created using tie dye. An simple and effective design uses the 'roll' method and makes stripes on your fabric. Roll up your fabric to make a tube shape and place elastic bands around the fabric tube to outline the separate stripes.
Before you dye your fabric make sure that your workspace is well covered and you have some plastic gloves to protect your skin.
Be sure to follow the instructions on your dye to make it up correctly, and you're ready!
Lighter colours first, add your dye to your fabric in the different sections outlined by your elastic bands. You do not need to dye the whole fabric if you don't want to as white is just as effective! After this, wrap the fabric in a plastic bag and leave it for 4-6 hours to allow the dye to react with the fabric.
Again using rubber gloves, remove the elastic bands from your fabric and soak it in cold water. It is recommended that you now give your fabric its first wash on its own in the washing machine. Leave your fabric to dry and it is now ready to use!
