Haberdashery (or rather, haberdasher) is a word that I first became familiar with whilst reading Chaucers' Canterbury Tales at school. Traditionally, a haberdasher was a peddler who would sell small articles for hand making clothes such as buttons, threads and zips. Since the days of Chaucer, the word Haberdashery has come to be an all encompassing terms for small tools used for sewing and dressmaking.
