With the New Year approaching, you might be thinking about 2015’s sewing projects. If you’re a little stumped for ideas after dealing with the stress of Christmas, why not take a look at our Haberdashery section for some inspiration? I personally like to use Haberdashery items not only for their proper functions, but also as embellishment on my garments and craft projects to achieve a truly unique look. In today’s blog, I’ll be talking about a few of my favourite choices in the hope that it might spark an idea in your own mind!

Ribbon – This item comes in so many different designs, types and colours that you may spend a while debating which one you want to choose! Ribbon can be used for all types of embellishment and looks particularly effective when used to create bows. A lot of our customers also love to use it around the circumference of a cake for special occasions.
Fabric Dye – Sometimes I find a fabric that I love the print of, but not the colour. One of my favourite Haberdashery items to use in a case like this is our Dylon fabric dye – available in both machine and hand-wash variations, there are a good number of colours to choose from whether you are trying to match your fabric to something such as the interior design of a room in your house, or if you just want to dye something to your favourite colour. Please bear in mind that Dylon fabric dye only works on natural fabrics such as cotton.
Buttons – Despite their primary function being that of a fastener, buttons are also a popular choice for using in embellishment on sewing and craft projects. This is especially evident in fashion on the high street, where plenty of designers and stores have buttons on their clothing as an extra special touch.

Beads – Beading work can look beautiful with time and effort put into it, and it is a popular choice for formalwear and even bridal gowns.
