Fleece Fabric is perfect for winter blankets[/caption]
So Halloween is over and it won't be long until Christmas is upon us so I guess it is time to be thinking about what Christmas presents to buy for the family. I have a young niece and nephew to buy for and this year instead of getting them more toys to add to the huge collection they have already I have decided to make them some presents. As well as being something unique and different for them it will be a very personal gift. For my niece I am making a magicians cloak for her out of sequin satin and economy satin as she is really into doing magic tricks, and she is pretty good at them too! For my nephew I have decided to make a blanket from Fleece Fabric; as he is only two and thought it would keep him warm in his pushchair or when he is on the sofa watching Cbeebies.
Fleece Fabric is a great fabric to use for blankets as it is beautifully soft and warm and at Calico Laine we have just added a number of lovely designs to our range so I am spoilt for choice on which Fleece Fabric to choose to make my nephew's present. As he is only two I will probably go for one of the designs with animals on and am particularly fond of the supersoft fleece that we stock as this is extra soft and would be perfect for a toddler to snuggle up to. At £6.99 metre this is a great price for a Christmas present as you wouldn't need more than a metre of the fabric and it would be much cheaper than buying a ready made blanket in the shops while also being more personal.
To decorate the Fleece Fabric I am going to use felt fabric to create an appliqué design so that his name is written on the blanket making it more personal to him. Using anchor embroidery threads, I am going to hand sew the letters onto the corner of the fabric and this shouldn't be too tricky as both fabrics are fairly easy to work with. To finish off the Fleece Fabric I will bind the edges with seam binding in a contrasting colour to brighten it up and give it a more professional look.
