Fleece Fabrics are incredibly popular here at Calico Laine regardless of the time of year but i think everyone is in agreement when its comes to the winter. There is nothing nicer than being snug curled up with a cosy fleece blanket. Fleece Fabric is one of our best sellers because its so versatile, its easy to work with and best of all it doesn't fray. Today we'll explore some of the uses of fleece fabric along with the benefits of using it.
With Christmas fast approaching I always think its nice to make a few of my gifts. This year I'm making several soft toys out of the fleece fabric for my nieces and nephews. (McCalls and Butterick have some superb patterns). I always feel as though most of the children in my family get a lot of toys and by boxing day they've forgotten who bought them what, so I like to give something a little bit more personal. This year we've also had a couple of new additions to our family so i'll also be making a couple of blankets. I'm a big fan of the knotted blankets which are incredibly easy to make. You simply lay two different fleece fabrics on top of one another, cut strips into the fabric and knot the top layer to the bottom. These blankets are lovely and warm, they wash well, dry quickly and make great gifts for all the family not just babies!
As i've said, fleece fabric is very versitile and if you want to make gifts for older children or other family members then possibilities are endless. Fleece Fabric is ideal for outdoor wear like jackets, hats, scarfs or gloves. Its also great for those particularly cold nights when you need a snuggly dressing gown or cosy onsie. If you're an animal lover then the fleece fabric is also perfect for dog coats or a nice warm cat bed. Lets make sure we don't forget our fury friends this christmas, they're part of the family too!! Making presents always get me the mood for Christmas. Happy sewing everyone.
