A couple of weeks ago we mentioned, in our blog, that we were extending our range of Net Curtains here at Calico Laine. Last week our extended range arrived in store and this includes our new Flame Retardant Net Curtains, also known as fire resistant Net Curtains. Flame retardant Net Curtains are particularly popular with businesses such as hotels and nursing homes as it is now a legal requirement set by the UK government, that Net Curtains in any building open to the public must be fire resistant. Flame Retardant nets are treated with a special coating at the point of manufacture which ensures that they meet this health and safety standard. By having this coating, Flame Retardant Nets would burn slower than non-treated nets and would not add more 'fuel' to the fire providing a safer escape in the case of fire. Many people also consider having Flame Retardant Net Curtains in their private homes nowadays. Although it is not a legal requirement as with public buildings it is preferable for some people. Net Curtains can cover a large amount of space in our homes and in case of fire, windows can be the first point of escape. With Flame Retardant nets at the window, burning slower than standard nets, it makes sense that you may want fire resistant nets to give you the maximum time to exit the building. As with our standard Net Curtains, these nets come with a slotted top making them easy to hang with either a net curtain wire or pole. They are a  plain voile style net and have a 6" double hem along the bottom edge to provide a small bit of detailing.
