Disney release their new version of Cinderella in early 2015.[/caption]
This week Disney have released the first trailer for the much anticipated remake of the classic fairytale Cinderella starring Cate Blanchett. The cast of Disney Princesses have delighted and enthralled many generations of girls (and boys!) and with the huge success of last year's Frozen starring Princess Elsa we have witnessed a huge rise in the sale of princess inspired Fabrics as parents, dressmakers and costume designers look to emulate the classic elegance of the princesses. Due for release in March 2015, Cinderella is already tipped to be one of the biggest movies of the coming year and for Oscar winning costume designer Sandy Powell, the reinvention of Cinderella for the modern age has proven to be something of a challenge but one that any costume designer would relish. Sandy grew up in Brixton where she still lives and would pass her time exploring the Fabric shops of the West Indian communities; this cultural influence and her expert knowledge of historical costume have resulted in a distinctly 19th century feel for this timeless fairytale.

Last year's smash hit Frozen was possibly without doubt the most successful Disney movie for a generation and as a consequence we have seen an enormous rise in the sale of Fabrics such as economy satin and chiffon in varying shades of blue. These Fabrics are perfect for recreating the popular ice costume which features in the movies most famous seen as Princess Elsa is seen singing the popular 'Let It Go'. Cinderella is most famous for the stunning pale blue ball gown, created in the film with one wave of her fairy godmother's magic wand. In reality, accurately recreating this gorgeous gown is a little bit more complicated than that and may require some basic skills in corseting.
