Winter is a wonderful time of the year with the crisp, frosty mornings and the twinkly lights of Christmas and winter festivals. However with winter, come the dark, cold nights that can result in an uncomfortable nights sleep for your little ones, especially with the temperatures dropping to well below freezing as they have done for the past few years. With the cost of energy rising year on year, many families are looking for alternative ways to keep warm and ward off the arctic-like chill of a frosty British winter. One of the best ways to ensure your family is protected against the bitter chill of a cold winter night is to invest in some good quality sleepwear.
There are a number of benefits to sewing your own items of sleepwear, not least that sewing and dressmaking is a wonderful and fulfilling hobby but by creating your own items you can choose the perfect fabric to suit your child's personality and engage their individual interests. You can control the weight and thickness of the fabric you choose and by purchasing fabric from our collection you can be sure that your sleepwear designs will be of the highest quality and your designs will last year after year.
One of the most popular items of sleepwear for children is the baby sleeping bag. This is a quick and easy sewing project which is easily achievable by a dressmaker or recreational sewer of any ability. The simplest way to create a new baby sleeping bag is to use an old sleeping bag as a template, if you do not have an existing sleeping bag you can always use your child's baby grow for some simple measurements. Remember to make the arms a little wider and longer and the sleeping bag you are cutting should be about 20cm longer than your existing item to allow for a growth spurt. When cutting your fabric, remember to allow approximately a 1cm seam allowance to insert your zip and cut a V shape out of the front panel using your original item as a guide.
