All year round there are opportunities and inspiration for Craft projects and particularly during the Easter break, when the kids are off and the weather is not always up to outside play, you can keep your kids amused with a variety of Craft ideas from simple greeting cards for the little ones to more complicated projects such as Easter bonnets for the more advanced mini Crafter! [caption id="attachment_6778" align="alignright" width="300"]bonnet A traditional Easter Bonnet created by Kaylin, age 3.[/caption] Traditional Easter bonnets are a great way of getting your children interested in Crafts and many schools and nurseries will have your children hard at work on their creations for many weeks before Easter itself, children who are taking part in Easter parades or attending Easter celebrations will love being able to wear and show off something they have made themselves. Easter bonnets can be bought ready to decorate or can be Crafted from a variety of materials including card and even paper plates. When it comes to the fun part, the decorating, the only limit is your child's imagination. Easter bonnets can be decorated with almost any Craft material you can think of including buttons, ribbons and glitter. We stock a variety of cute Easter ribbons by Bertie's Bows which are just perfect for these kind of projects and are always one of our fastest selling Craft items at this time of year. If you wish to use buttons, choose pretty pastel colours in the shape of flowers, bunnies and lambs for a cute little bonnet. If your children are the type who love dressing up, you could even try making an Easter bunny mask from something as simple as a paper plate and a few Crafty odds and ends. Paint your plate in a shade of pink or grey and add some cute floppy ears made from card and let your children loose with paints and pencils to bring your Easter Bunny mask to life. Our Craft department now stock a range of pipe cleaners which are the perfect choice for fashioning your bunny whiskers and our paints are safe for children to use under supervision. Use scissors to cut the eye holes and two small holes either side of the head, thread a piece of elastic and tie. Use a piece of card to draw out your Easter egg template and cut out the shape using our felt squares in the colour of your choice. With a hand sewing needle and a small piece of thread, assist your children whilst they practice their stitching by sewing the two pieces together and then when you have only as small gap left, use our wadding to stuff your Easter egg shape. Your children can decorate their egg using fabric paints from our Craft department or by sewing on buttons and other embellishments. Little girls may even want to decorate their Easter egg using glitter glues and diamantes. Of course, children of all ages will love the traditional painting of eggs as part of their Easter Craft projects. Buy half a dozen eggs or, if your are lucky enough to have hens, collect them fresh from your garden. Hard boil your eggs in a pan of boiling water with a pinch of salt for around 10 minutes. Once cooked, place your eggs under running cold water until they are cool enough to handle. You can purchase special egg decorating kits from many Craft stores or (and we think this way is much more fun!) use the existing items you have around your home such as paints, ribbons and glitter to decorate your hard boiled eggs. You can even use wool or pipe cleaners to give your Easter egg faces some hair! Display your children's decorated eggs in a basket or around your home for a low cost and fun Easter decoration. Always remember to hard boil your eggs first to avoid any messy accidents!! Have you been hard at work on any Easter Craft projects? As always, we love to see your pictures on our Facebook page.
