This leads me onto the topic of todays blog, you guessed it Dressmaking :-) I'm going to go into a little more detail about the selection of Dressmaking Fabrics that we sell here at Calico Laine and what sort of fabrics can be used for what sort of dresses. Chiffon: this sheer fabric is an excellent choice for summer dresses as it lightweight fabric that can used on it own or as a layering fabric with a heavier weight fabric such as satin. Double Knit Jersey: A heavy jersey fabric, this fabric is perfect for when the weather takes a turn for the worse. It has a slight stretch to it and is perect for skirts or even full lenght dresses. This fabric is 150cm and available in a variety of different colours. Ginghams: These fabrics have been around for many many years but they are a staple of anyones wardrobe. At Calico Laine we stock a wide choice of different gingham fabrics including 100% cotton and poly-cotton versions. Satin Fabrics: One of the main sections for dressmaking, satin fabrics are an absolute must for any keen dressmakers. At Calico Laine we offer a number of different options including Duchess Satins, Economy Satins and Stretch Satins to name a few.
