This weekend has been a big one for the fashion and entertainment industries with two of the biggest awards shows in the entertainment calendar taking place over the weekend. This bank holiday weekend saw stars of music and of the small screen taking to the red carpet for the MTV VMA Awards and the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards. As always, there were some show stopping performances including Beyonce's epic 20 minute performance but more importantly than that was the stunning examples of cutting edge fashion and Dress Fabrics that will no doubt be influencing our own fashion and dressmaking choices for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season.

Over in Inglewood, California the biggest stars in the world of music rocked up at The Forum for the 31st Annual MTV Video Music Awards; possibly the biggest night of the year in music with the exception of the Billboard Awards, anybody who is anybody made sure to be there. As always at an event such as this, there was an array of figure hugging outfits and plenty of skin on show but amid the usual attention grabbing fashion fails we are starting to see the seasons upcoming trends begin to emerge. One of the most obvious new trends we saw this weekend was the growing popularity of metallic Dress Fabrics. Both Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Izalea opted for shimmering metallic pieces with Jennifer showing her incredible figure in a Charbel Zoe creation and rap star Iggy in a figure hugging Versace gown. The metallic trend is not always the easiest to pull off but when done correctly looks stunning at your festive celebrations or for an autumn time wedding celebration. Duchess satin is one of the most popular fabrics for achieving the shimmering, metallic look; ideal for glamorous, formal designs this fabric is perfect for keeping your look effortlessly elegant like Iggy. If, like J-Lo, you wish to be a bit more daring with your wardrobe choices, look to our showtime fabrics for added glitz and sparkle. Metallic was also a popular choice for Emmy Award attendees such as pregnant Hayden Panettiere who looked the picture of glowing elegance in a silver, embellished maxi dress by Lorena Sarbu paired with an elegant up do and beautifully simple make up. The Nashville actress who is due to welcome her first daughter soon looked incredible in this shimmering frock with intricate jewel embellishment and beading. This beautiful gown is perfect for the red carpet but would not be out of place at a black tie event and would be the perfect addition to your party season wardrobe.

Pantone predicted that amongst the top ten colours for women this upcoming season would be a selection of reds, lilacs and oranges and this was certainly evident when observing last nights star arrivals at the Emmy Awards. Many of the famous ladies attending the prestigious awards were in the mood to paint the town red with televisions biggest stars showing up in varying shades of scarlet. Mad Men stars January Jones and Christina Hendricks looked incredible in their co-ordinating outfits whilst Claire Danes joined the fashionable ladies in her own stunning red gown designed by Marchesa and crafted from a beautiful lace Dress Fabric. Kerry Washington showcased a combination of two top trends in a stunning orange, strapless piece by Prada which also gave a nod to the metallic trend with some subtle sequin embellishment. Veteran red carpet star Halle Berry showed her fashion credentials by making a grand entrance at the Nokia Theatre in a stunning lilac gown by Ellie Saab which showed off her famous figure with a daring thigh high split. Crafted from a gorgeous flowing Dress Fabric, Halle's beautiful halter neck gown has so far taken the title for best dress of the night. The beautiful colour palette on display is the perfect choice this season with its beautiful autumnal effect and it certainly made a change from the classic black which we are used to seeing at this time of year.
We carry a selection of beautiful dressmaking fabrics perfect for recreating any of these looks for the upcoming party season.
