The spotlight of the fashion world was once again on Dressmaking Fabrics this last week as Spring/Summer Haute Couture Week swept into the capital city of fashion, Paris, where the biggest designers in the business took over the runways with a stunning selection of show stopping gowns and bold ready to wear pieces. Designers and their teams put in up to 300 hours work on each bespoke piece, so extravagant they were that they did not feature so much as a price tag. Paris haute couture is so exclusive it is normally reserved for only a privileged few, in fact it is said that only 2000 women worldwide have ever purchased 'true' haute couture with less than 200 of them being repeat customers. Haute couture is a term protected by law and can only be used by firms that meet a certain, strict criteria but is used loosely worldwide to describe high fashion, custom made clothing. World famous haute couture fashion houses include Chanel, Roland Mouret and Louis Vuitton and the one thing all of these designers have in common is their expert use of sumptuous, high quality Dressmaking Fabrics and elegant designs, finished with perfectly executed sewing techniques resulting in flawless seams and exquisitely finished garments. One of the most recognised names in fashion, Chanel was founded by the great Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel famous for creating clothes which were primarily practical but also timelessly stylish, she was an expert at creating elegant, simple classics which were guaranteed to stand the test of time. The inventor of the little black dress, Coco knew better than anyone what Dressmaking Fabrics and elegant lines would most flatter a woman's body and was influential in the rise of couture clothing. In 2015 Chanel is still the go to label for many of the world's most stylish men and women and is headed up by Karl Lagerfeld, a cutting edge designer who has served up some of the boldest and most forward thinking designs in recent years whilst always holding true the Chanel mantra of "fashion fades, only style remains the same".  This year, the elegant lines and classic cuts of Chanel were crossed with some beautifully ornate pieces featuring tulle Dressmaking Fabrics and crystal flower embellishments resulting in a dazzling collection which perfectly showcased Lagerfeld's supreme craftsmanship which has been instrumental in keeping the label cemented firmly at the very top of the fashion game. The SS15 collection was a riot of floral Dressmaking Fabrics and hair decoration in a stunning palette of poppy red, hyacinth blue, mild yellow and pretty rose pinks. Featuring delicate embroidery and shimmery details such as sequins, rhinestones and beads the chic and glamorous designs were largely crafted from lightweight Dressmaking Fabrics including tulle and pure, beautiful silk. Flowers were again a prominent feature in this stunning collection with many designs featuring gorgeous 3D appliqués or delicate embroidered floral motifs. White, ivory and grey Dressmaking Fabrics were particularly dominating colours with a hint of subdued pinks, blues and yellows similar to those at the Chanel show, indicating that pretty pastels are set to be a big hit this upcoming season. Counting fashions icons Blake Lively and Eva Longoria amongst his biggest fans, it is easy to see why Zuhair Murad is one of the most prominent designers at any big red carpet event and we fully expect to see the cream of Hollywood showcasing the ultra feminine and elegant designs of this supremely talented designer at the upcoming Academy Awards and Grammy ceremonies.
