So the festive season is quickly creeping upon us. Every year we think we have ages and suddenly we've spent so long worrying about everyone else that we haven't left enough time to sort ourselves out! This year I'm on a mission to make myself 2 new dresses for Christmas. It's my treat. Obviously my favourite part of sewing is choosing the right Dress Fabric. I already have a few ideas.
The first thing I want to make is a smart casual day dress for Christmas day. I need something that is practical as I'm cooking but it also needs to look good. I'm trying to pull off the super mum look to the rest of family. The Dress Fabric I have my eye on is the red double knit jersey. Its a stunning, vibrant red and the cloth is a lovely quality. I want a basic pinafore style which can be paired up with a blouse, tights and a pair of boots. The double jersey is ideal for this style as it has a stretch which allows movement (ideal when cooking for 10) and its heavy weight makes it an ideal winter dress fabric.
My second project, if time permits, is a nice evening dress. I have a few nights out planned with work colleagues and friends. I'm hoping the one dress will lend itself well to both occasions. I'm undecided about which Dress Fabric to choose for this one, there's just too much choice. I'd quite like a capped sleeve shift dress but I'm undecided as to whether to go with cinnamon coloured satin back dupion. This is a reversible dress fabric, the matt sides resembles raw silk which I love, especially because its a fraction of the price. I think the Dupion will look simple but classy and expensive. My other option is the bottle duchess satin with a corded lace overlay. I think the corded lace is timeless and the bottle colour is very fitting for Christmas. If I look anymore at all the lovely dress fabrics then I'll change my mind again!
