Lycra is a lovely, top quality fabric which has a range of uses across the board. The great thing about Lycra is that the fabric is quite wide at 150cm (60") and is a great weight, it is composed of 80% nylon and 20% spandex. Lycra has a 4way stretch to it so is not only really comfortable wear (perfect for dance and sports wear) it is available in beautiful rich colours which have a matte shine to them.. Lycra is a great fabric as it is durable and breathable too! This will ensure that whatever you make with this fabric it will be really comfortable to wear. One of the most popular uses for dance and sports wear as it will allow all movements of the body and is often made into leggings, leotards and dresses. It drapes really well too, which will exaggerate any flowing movement..You can accessorize with our range of Diamante and Trims and add that extra sparkle! Why not create your own fancy dress garments? Again, you could always use different fabrics that we have here at Calico Laine to create your desired effect! Another popular use for Lycra, is to make clothing for your animals. As there is no restrictions regarding movement and the fabric is brilliantly breathable, it is a perfect choice. They can be made into dog T-shirts and coats and is very commonly used with horses to create Lycra hoods to enhance shine and flatten the coat and makes them look beautifully shiny and also keeps your animals brilliantly clean! You could also use a soft material along the edging to add even more comfort such as our range of Faux Fur, Fleece or even Towelling.
