Lycra
Lycra Fabric is the best go-to fabric for any kind of sport or dance wear. The 4-way stretch in lycra means it stretches in all directions and allows your costumes to become like a second skin. This makes it easy to move in and comfortable to wear. Lycra is a great leotard and legging fabric, meaning you have a lovely base garment to create your costume around. Here at Calico Laine, we offer a huge variety of stunning colours and designs to get your imagination going.
Pro Tip: The best way to sew lycra is using an overlocker. If you don't have an overlocker to hand, set your sewing machine to a zig-zag stitch to allow the fabric to stretch with the seam. If you don't use a stretch stitch, your garment will 'crack' and split down the seams.
Jersey - Dancewear fabrics
Another great stretch fabric is our range of
Jersey Fabrics. Not quite as stretchy as lycra, jersey makes beautifully comfortable joggers, hoodies and sweatshirts. These still look great on stage if you aren't a fan of tight costumes. Our
Cotton Jersey is a single-knit fabric with lovely breathable properties. This is ideal for children's costumes as it is beautifully soft and easy to wash. Our gorgeous colour range would look great in a brightly-coloured hoodie for your little ones to go to practice in!
Chiffon and Organza - Dancewear fabrics
