Crafts and crafting has becoming more and more popular in recent years as the vintage and handmade look has come into fashion. We get many customers online and in store looking for haberdashery and fabric to complete their craft projects and one of the most important items they are looking to buy is glues and adhesive. Many people are unsure as to what glue they may need so here is a quick rundown of some of our most useful adhesives.
High Tack - Lots of Calico Laine customers like to do Craft projects with their children and high tack glue is ideal for this as it is an all purpose PVA glue that can be used for sticking down card, trimmings, felt and paper, amongst other things. It is great to use with children as it is safe and non-toxic, meeting EEC safety standards. It is a flexible glue when dry and is not affected by cold or hot temperatures. Although it is a fairly slow drying glue with a little bit of patience this is a cheap and easy glue to work with for making things like collages and paper masks with the kids.
Pronty Glue - This glue is primarily used for fabric Craft jobs however it is a particularly versatile glue and can be used for much more than just textiles. Pronty glue is a fast drying glue and is sometimes favoured over traditional PVAs due to this. This adhesive will dry clear, like most glues and is super strong making it useful for gluing fabric to wood, metal and hardboard. As well as Craft projects it can be used for sewing tasks such as fixing hems and repairing holes in clothes.
Gem Tac - This adhesive is useful for those of you who want to add a bit of sparkle to your Craft projects. Gem Tac is a glue specifically for bonding beads, sequins and glitter to fabric as well as to metal and glass. Water based and non-toxic, this is particularly useful for sticking sequins and crystals onto dance wear or onto textiles bags. As it is flexible, it can also be used to glue crystal diamantes to the front of shoes, a Craft that has become popular in the last few years.
