Sometimes when it comes to dressmaking new garments, it can often be difficult to decide which material is best for the type of garment being created! As well as stocking a huge range of well-loved and traditional dressmaking fabrics such as satins and chiffons, we will always ensure that we stock a full range of materials that are right on trend for the current fashion season! We often get asked by customers about which types of fabrics are ideal for creating a certain look or feel to specific items of clothing such as dresses or trousers. Today I would like to use one of our newer ranges of materials, and hopefully show you how they can be used alongside other types of fabrics to create 'stand out' pieces to really compliment your wardrobe! Leatherette or Leather Look fabrics are perfect for showing off a unique and funky style at any time of day, so why not give it a go....
  • Dresses - One of the most popular looks at the moment is the use of contrasting fabrics on the same garment. Try using leather look fabric for a more fitted bodice, whilst using a more floaty fabric such as chiffon or georgette for the bottom half of the dress to really give you that glamorous finish! We also have a great selection of different coloured leather look materials, so why not be a bit more daring and go for something a bit brighter as we head into the summer months!
  • Leggings and Trousers - 'Wet look' and Shiny leggings and trousers are a fashion statement that looks set to stay for a while, and with the range of looks that can be achieved it's not hard to see why! When making your own version of these types of garments, why not try adding some panels of jersey material? As well as adding extra comfort and fit where you need it, contrasting colours and textures are the perfect way to really personalise your clothing.
The full range of Dressmaking Fabrics can be viewed online and should you need any further help or guidance on the fabrics, then please don't hesitate to contact our sales team who will be more than happy to help you! If you have any creations of your own, we would love to see them! Please share them with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages, where there is always the opportunity to win special prizes and keep up with the latest news :-)
