It won't be too long until Christmas day is upon us and now is the time to be getting things ready for the big day and the holidays. Every family seems to have different Christmas traditions and these traditions are what makes the day special to you and your family. Whether it be new Christmas pyjamas, opening one present on Christmas Eve or playing board games after the turkey dinner. For those of you who are creative it may be nice to start a new tradition, making use of our beautiful Christmas Fabrics.
One of our members of staff, Helen, has a tradition of having a Christmas Eve stocking and this is filled alternatively, each year, between her and her husband with goodies and one small gift ranging from a small toy for the kids, a bottle of bubbly for the adults and maybe a take-away menu to have a nice treat in the evening. The stocking itself can be made using Christmas Fabrics and a different one could even be made each year as our fabrics are very reasonably priced and wouldn't be too expensive to make more than one. If you didn't want to make a different one every year, you could make two; an adult one made from our Christmas Fabrics featuring holly or snowflakes and a children's one featuring snowmen and penguins. These can be trimmed with white faux fur and you could even put your family name on the back using felt squares to create the letters as these are easy to cut and sew on. If you wanted to create a family heirloom, you could even try making a quilted stocking with a wadding inside to give it a bit more 'body' than the usual stocking fabrics.
Another idea for a new tradition is to create a special tree decoration each year using Christmas Fabrics. This is something you could get the kids involved in too. If they are older children, they could do their own sewing on the sewing machine and for the younger children, you could cut the shapes out and sew them and they could finish them off by sticking on buttons and diamantes. These could be tree, star or snowman shaped and can be made using felt on one side and Christmas Fabric on the other or with Christmas Fabrics on both sides. By adding some cord to them they can then be hung on the tree and can make your tree unique to your family.
