In a few weeks most people will be going for a night out on the tiles for their staff Christmas parties to celebrate the festive season and at Calico Laine there will be no exception. As the party season gets closer and closer, talk in the office has turned to what outfits everyone will be wearing. Many people will be buying a new outfit on the high street however with all the beautiful fabrics we stock there will be a number of us who will be sewing our own dresses or outfits. This year I have been looking at the Chiffon Fabrics and think that I might create something from one of the many we have to choose from. Chiffon Fabrics create a flowing, floaty appearance to a dress and this is something that appeals to me as it is always great to dance in as it isn't restrictive and will move well. One of the best selling Chiffon Fabrics at Calico Laine is cationic chiffon and there are a huge number of colours to choose from in this range so I am drawn towards choosing one of these chiffons to create my dress. Many of the colours would be ideal for a christmas party dress and at only £3.99 per metre it is ideal for me as I will also be working on a tight budget. As an alternative I could look at using one of the extra wide Chiffon Fabrics as these also drape well and are good value for money but have a little more weight to them so may be slightly warmer to wear. Extra wide chiffon is similar to georgette and is less see through than cationic chiffon and therefore would not need as many layers to cover. A lining can be used underneath this fabric however to provide extra coverage. Both of these Chiffon Fabrics are fairly wide which means that most patterns can be made using this fabric which will give me more choice when making my outfit.
