Even though it seems like it is still pretty far away, it is only around 12 weeks until Christmas and that means that if you are planning on making a special occasions outfit for a Christmas work night out, now is the perfect time to be getting it all sorted ahead of time. There is nothing worse than leaving your dressmaking to the last minute and panic sewing. This is the time when you make the most mistakes! There are a number of dressmaking fabrics that would be great for making a Christmas party outfit but one of my favourites is chiffon and especially Cationic Chiffon Fabric. It is an elegant fabric that will give you a smart, 'dressed up' look without feeling over dressed.
Chiffon, derived from the French word for cloth, is a lightweight material that is woven with a see-through aesthetic. Due to it's lightweight nature, it can be used as an overlay over other fabrics or if you are looking to create a depth of colour, it can be layered upon itself. If you are wearing a Cationic Chiffon Fabric for a Christmas night out and are worried that it might be a little on the chilly side you can always use it along with a heavier fabric such as a crepe or microfibre. The Cationic Chiffon can be used as an overlay or even used just as sleeves to retain the floaty appearance but providing a little more warmth.
Cationic Chiffon Fabric is ideal for those of you on a tight budget with your dressmaking as it is only £4.49 per metre and at 140cm wide, you get a lot for your money. The range of colours are great with this fabric with around 20 different colours to pick from including gold, silver, pinks, purples and greens.
To embellish your Cationic Chiffon Fabric and make it more glitzy for a night out you can sew seed beads or crystals onto the hem of the dress, the neckline or along the edge of the sleeves if you are putting sleeves into your outfit. Make sure you don't use anything too heavy though as this may weigh your Cationic Chiffon down too much. To give another interesting aesthetic you could use chiffon in one colour as a top layer and choose a complimentary but not matching coloured dress lining underneath to create an interesting colour. What ever you choose, you will be sure to have a dress that stands out amongst the crowd.
