Calico Laine is a well known name in the Wirral and Merseyside area for fabric supplies and for most people it is the only Fabric Shop worth visiting! Established back in the early seventies by David and Wendy Baker, it is still a family run business (with a number of extra staff added now!) headed by Dave and Wendy and this makes it a warm and welcoming place to visit to buy all of your dressmaking fabrics and supplies. The company originally began selling fabrics at markets, which can be hard work, especially on those cold dark winter days. David and Wendy sold their goods at Neston, Chester, Oswestry and Birkenhead markets amongst others but as the demand for fabric and haberdashery increased they decided to open their first Fabric Shop in the precinct in Liscard. This gave them a permanent residence for people to visit and although the Fabric Shop has now moved, Calico Laine is still one of Liscard's best loved and well known shops with many regular customers visiting on a daily basis. Unfortunately for many people, they do not have the luxury of having a local fabric shop such as Calico Laine nearby to them and due to this, Dave and Wendy decided to open an online Fabric Shop to give customers across the country the opportunity to buy their products. Since the launch of the Calico Laine website in 2006 the business went from strength to strength and a 2500 square foot unit was opened in Neston to house the online side of the business and another retail Fabric Shop. This unit quickly grew and was expanded in 2009 and is now a 4500 square foot retail and warehouse unit. Calico Laine is a Fabric Shop that specialises in dressmaking fabrics and we offer a large selection of fabrics from jerseys to gaberdines, satins to organzas. We also hold stock of dressmaking patterns from Butterick, McCalls and Vogue and have haberdashery from trusted brands Prym and Gutermann. Our team are always on hand to give you advice on your dressmaking and will be able to use their knowledge to help you decide what is best for your project. Dave and Wendy have worked hard throughout the years to provide a well stocked Fabric Shop with quality products and excellent customer service and it is this customer service and their principles and values that sets us apart from other Fabric Stores.
