When it comes to anyone's sewing projects, we would be totally lost without the hundreds and hundreds of haberdashery products that we use all the time. One of the most important haberdashery items are fastenings, and one of the most commonly used fasteners in the sewing world is the Zip. We have plenty of customers who Buy Zips from us all year round, and they are definitely some of the most popular items that we sell here at Calico Laine.
When it comes to choosing the right kind of Zip for your project, having so much choice can be a little overwhelming - there are so many different types to pick from and to the enthusiastic novice, knowing what each and every kind does can be a lot to take in at first if you don't know what they are individually suitable for. There are a couple of things that are useful to have in mind before you Buy Zips from us here at Calico Laine; first is the size that you require for your project. Zips are actually measured by the length of the teeth, not the length of the tape that they are attached to. They are also available in increments of even numbers (across our huge range, we have zips from a tiny 4" all the way up to a huge 120" depending on what kind of Zip you are buying!). |f you are having trouble finding a zip that is the correct size for your project, you can actually Buy Zips in a longer size and cut them down to your required length after securing the ends with either stitching or glue.
The other thing that is important to know is whether your project requires an open end zip or a closed end zip. Open end zips separate completely into two pieces and are used for garments such as jackets and coats. We stock several different kinds of open end zips including metal, plastic and nylon. As for closed end zips, after being unzipped these stay in one piece at the bottom. These are found in skirts, dresses and trousers, as well as bags and pockets that close with a zip.
