The majority of customers we deal with at Calico Laine are looking to Buy Zips for dressmaking projects and therefore only need their zips to be a small size however we do occasionally get asked for zips in a longer length for more unusual projects. There are a number of zips that can be used for those times when a longer length is required. Tent Zips : If you are looking to Buy Zips that are a long length and open ended, it will open fully at the bottom and each side will separate, our tent zips may be what you are looking for. These zips are available in 3 sizes; 72 inch, 96 inch and 120 inch and are ideal for creating openings in sleeping bags, duvets and gazebos. As the majority of standard replacement open ended zips do not come in a longer length than 36 inch, our tent zips are popular for those more unusual tasks that need a zip replacing over this size. If a zip is required in a size longer than 36 inch but smaller than 72 inch, these zips can be cut down. They simply need to be trimmed in-between the teeth at the top of the zip and then a small stitch can be sewn at the top of either side to stop the zip pull from coming off. With silver metal teeth and either black or beige fabric tape; tent zips can be a great solution for your long zip problems. Continuous Zipping : For those of you who need to Buy Zips that are long in length but do not open fully at the end, you need to buy a closed end zip. The best zip for this is our continuous zipping. This is a nylon, spiral style zip which is sold by the metre meaning that you can buy as long a zip as you require. This zipping does not have a metal stopper which you find on most other zips and instead the end is either sewn into the garment/project or a small stitch can be sewn over the bottom of the teeth to create a stopper. Here at Calico Laine we stock continuous zipping in beige in 3mm and 5mm size teeth with zip pulls sold separately. This zipping is ideal if you are making large cushions, bean bags or large bags and holdalls.
