As we are coming into wedding season we have been looking at what the runways of New York have been showing as the major trends for Spring/Summer 2014 and one Bridal Fabric that seems to feature in most collections is lace. This is still continuing on from the trend that Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge set when she used lace for her own wedding dress making it one of the most popular Bridal Fabrics in the last couple of years.
The latest creations seem to all go with a similar style of having an off the shoulder, strapless gown with a lace overlay or lace sleeves to add some detail and embellishment to the dress. Lace has been a popular Bridal Fabric to use in the past and it seems that with the influence of the Royal wedding it is going to continue to be a favoured Bridal Fabric for a long time to come.
Lace can add a sense of romance and tradition to a wedding gown however it can also be used in modern dress designs. There are a number of lace Bridal Fabrics which can be used whether it is lightweight plain lace, a corded lace or a guipure lace. It can be used as the main Fabric for the dress to provide an all over pattern or a small amount can be used to create capped sleeves or a trim around the waistline of a shorter dress. If a lightweight lace is used, sequins and beading can be added on top to add extra sparkle and detailing. It is a versatile Bridal Fabric and this seems to be another reason for its popularity.
Are you a fan of lace for wedding gowns or did you have a lace dress yourself? Share your pictures and comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages, we would love to see them.
Until next time,
