Taking her cue from Amal Clooney, Sophie Hunter the new wife of Benedict Cumberbatch, last week revealed the stunning Valentino gown she wore to marry the Sherlock star to US Vogue. In a stunning shot snapped by Annie Leibovitz the theatre director showed off an intricately embroidered, long sleeve gown crafted from a beautiful silver lace Bridal Fabric. So complex was the design, the medieval inspired gown was believed to have taken almost three months to complete and there was no surprise that the lucky lady chose such as Bridal Fabric as the popularity of lace shows no signs of waning.

Lace has been one of the most popular Bridal Fabrics for centuries, since Queen Victoria wore her iconic white, lace trim gown for her nuptials to Prince Albert of Germany all the way back in 1836 but has experienced a huge resurgence in recent years, largely thanks to the stunning Sarah Burton for McQueen gown worn by Catherine Middleton when she married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Lace is perhaps the most intricate and beautiful Bridal Fabric available today and is easily distinguishable by it's open hole design. The most intricate and extravagant lace fabrics are often made by hand, taking months to produce just one metre of fabric however it is possible to mass produce lace by machine resulting in a more cost effective fabric available to everybody no matter your budget.
It is not only royalty who are famous for their lace creations. In 1956 Grace Kelly wore what is perhaps the most lauded lace bridal gown in fashion history. The Hollywood star wed Prince Albert of Monaco wearing an integrate ivory gown featuring a fitted lace bodice and satin skirt designed by Helen Rose of MGM Studios. Now on display in the Philadelphia Museum of Art the iconic gown is said to have been the inspiration for Katherine Middleton's own wedding gown and still serves as inspiration for some of the world's biggest fashion houses. In 2014 Marches debuted their Spring 2015 bridal collection and cited Princess Grace's gown as their inspiration.
