As any bride to be will tell you, the dress is the single most important aspect of any wedding. Your wedding dress is the most important thing you’ll ever wear, you want to look and feel sensational, it’s one of the biggest and most important days of your life after all! Your guests, predominately the women, will attend your wedding with a keen anticipation to see the chosen dress. Obviously it has to be absolutely perfect. Today we’re going to look at how achieve perfection at a fraction of the cost.
When choosing your wedding dress there are several things to take into consideration like your theme, the venue and the time of year. I am a firm believer in having your dress made from scratch, you can choose your own Bridal Fabric and have it customised to suit you. Here at Calico Laine we offer a sample service which means you are able to see the exact colour, texture and quality of the bridal fabrics that interest you. Our ranges of Bridal Fabrics are quite extensive so choosing is always fun. Some of the most popular Bridal Fabrics include the corded lace, the duchess satin and the chiffon. If you’re after a combination of textures then it’s always nice to see which fabric go together nicely.
Here at Calico Laine we offer a fabulous selection of heavy corded laces; they became increasingly popular after Kate Middleton chose something similar for her wedding gown. In more recent months Kim Kardashian and Amel Alamuddin Clooney both chose classic lace Bridal Fabrics. The colour range offers several shades which are ideal for wedding dresses but the brighter shades are also very popular for bridesmaids. I chose the cream corded lace for my wedding dress with a less traditional gold lining, being a sewer; I was able to make the whole dress for about £60. A real bargain.
If lace is not for you then we also sell a lot of satin. We offer several ranges which vary greatly, The duchess for instance is a heavy matt satin, the satin back crepe is soft and drapey while the satin back dupion resembles a mock silk. Satin is a very traditional bridal fabric but it is also very versatile, for instance Solange Knowles used satin for one of her two wedding outfits. Her second outfit was a very stylish but unusual satin jumpsuit. A look which could be replicated at a fractional of the cost. Once you’ve got the dress sorted, everything else will fall into place. Good luck to all the beautiful brides out there!
