The majority of our Fabrics at Calico Laine are primarily dress Fabrics however we do stock a select few products that can be used for upholstery or household furnishing and this includes our Baize Fabrics.
In general, baize is a woollen cloth, or woollen mix, that does not have a nap to it giving it a smooth finish. Due to this smooth finish, it is ideal for covering card tables and pool/billiard tables and this is something we are asked for a lot at Calico Laine. Whenever we get a request for card table fabrics, I would always suggest baize as it is a strong and durable fabric. Both card and pool table tops will be handled a lot due to the nature of the games that are played on them therefore it is important to have Fabrics covering them that will last through the years. Baize is also ideal for this use as it is does not pill or bobble which a cheaper felt fabric may do over time.
The most common colour for baize Fabrics is a bottle green however here at Calico Laine we have recently added two new colours to our range. Our baize is now available in royal blue and red as well as our standard bottle and emerald green which means that if you did not want to stick to the traditional colour you don't have to. The fabric comes in a width of 183 cm making it suitable for most table sizes.
As well as for table tops, we regularly recommend baize Fabrics for lining cutlery drawers and the insides of cupboards. Baize can be cut precisely using craft knifes or rotary cutters which makes it an ideal fabric for the inside of cupboards where precision is needed. It will also provide a protective surface for cutlery drawers and due to its durability it will last well in your kitchen.
When our customers enquire about our baize Fabrics we are often asked about how to attach the fabric to the table/cabinet. Our suggestion is that you use a glue such as our heavy duty spray adhesive as this will give you an even finish rather than a water based glue which may create 'lumps and bumps' if not spread evenly.
Have you used Baize for anything in your home? If so, why not get in touch with us on Facebook and share your pictures with our followers. If you have any queries about our Fabrics please ring our sales team.
Until next time,
