If you are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new addition to your family, you might be wondering what you can do to welcome your new bundle of joy into the world – and what better way than a handmade Knitted gift? Here at Calico Laine, we have lots of customers who are always knitting for babies; from their own children and grandchildren to Knitting for charities or the baby unit at your local hospital, here are some of our customers’ favourite choices for Knitting garments for babies and children.
With any garment for children, it is important that it is soft against the skin and easy to wear. Because of this, our customers love to buy from our Stylecraft Wondersoft Wool range – with Double Knitting, 3 ply and 4 ply all available, there is plenty of choice depending on what thickness and colour of Wool you want for your project. The 3 ply and 4 ply Yarns offer lots of beautiful pastel shades, but if you are after something a bit more bold then the Double Knitting includes a number of brighter shades such a brilliant red and a lovely navy.
If you are after something a little more unusual – perhaps you don’t want to go for the standard pink or blue shades – then take a look at our other Wondersoft Wools. The Merry Go Round selection features amazing shades that Knit up fantastically, and I am forever having customers tell me how happy they are with their finished garment – something I love to hear! I have also had a few ladies bring their Knitted up cardigans into the store to show me, and the finished result always looks brilliant.
There are also more mixed-colour Wools available in our Wondersoft DK Prints section. While there are some bold colours available, there are also some varieties that are perfect if you are after something that features just a little bit of interest, such as the speckled Cinderella, Little Boy Blue and Miss Muffet Yarns.
Finally, there is the Wondersoft Pearl DK Yarn; this beautiful Wool has a lustrous finish and is incredibly soft against the skin, making it once again a perfect choice for babies and children alike. There are both pastel and bold shades available, and it is strong enough to withstand both machine washing and tumble drying so it can be worn again and again.
Have you ever used any of these Wools in your own Knitting projects? Do you have any tips of your own when Knitting for children? Take a photo of your finished garment and leave a comment on our Facebook page – we love to hear back from our customers!
