So the big topic that everyone seems to be talking about this week is the news of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge expecting their first baby. A year after the Royal wedding, Kate and William are pregnant with their first child which will be the Queen's first great-grandchild. When most parents and grandparents find out that they are expecting a new baby in the family they quickly get started on knitting for the newborn. At Calico Laine we stock a good range of baby wool which is ideal for making handmade items for the little ones. I can just imagine it now, the Queen sitting in Buckingham Palace knitting up some booties and hats for the new little Royal!
It is important when you are knitting for babies to have a lovely soft wool so they are comfortable in whatever they are wearing and this is why our baby wool is ideal. You do not want to upset them with a scratchy wool or something that is too warm so they won't settle! Our most popular range is the Stylecraft Wondersoft Double Knit and 4ply Wool as this is particularly soft. Both of these knitting wools come in beautiful pastel colours which is perfect if you do not know the sex of the baby. If you do however, we also some stronger blue and pink colours. Another great wool choice is our Sirdar Double Knit Snuggly Baby Crofter Wool which comes in multi colours giving a lovely effect when it is knitted up, especially as a cardigan or blanket.
If you are looking for inspiration on what to knit for a new infant we also stock a range of knitting patterns from Stylecraft and Sirdar which includes designs for jackets, cardigans, hats, scarves and mittens. Once knitted up these can be decorated with some of our Ribbon Embellishments to make it look that extra bit special.
