Summer is nearly upon us (apparently!) which means only one thing... WEDDINGS! If you have been invited to a wedding and don't have a clue what to wear then why not make something? You know there won't be another person at the wedding in the same outfit as you, so why not. In this blog, I shall explain some of my favourite summer wedding dress fabrics available here at Calico Laine. Super Soft Duchess Satin This is an excellent fabric for summer weddings as it is a perfect fabric for a-line dresses, a full circle skirt or even a stunning blazer incase of that cold weather. Our Super Soft Duchess is 100% Polyester and 150cm wide. The colours available are; beige, black, cerise, purple, red, sea green, white and wine. The fabric is just as good quality as the Duchess Satin, it just has a little more flow to it. Jardine Cotton prints Jardine Fabrics are one of my favourite fabrics right now, the quality of the fabric is second to none, the patterns are beautiful and the colours you just can't beat. They are made form 97% Cotton, 3 % Spandex. We have lots of new prints including a bold Aztec pattern, floral and plain colours such as pink, red and white. This fabric would make up a beautiful body-con dress and would stand out in the crowd (apart from the bride of course! :-) . This is truely a stunning fabric. Remember when working with this fabric, you will need to use the stretch stitch on the machine to allow the fabric to stretch without snapping the thread. (The stretch stitch is the zig zag) Microfibre One of the most beautiful dresses a customer has shown me is a skater dress made frmo Microfibre, the fabrics flows beautifully and the colours are so vibrant without being too "in your face". It is an excellent quality fabric and is a big seller here. The colours are amazing, these colours include; white, black, ivory, purple, pink, red, orange and many many more! Our Microfibre is 150cm wide and made from 100% Polyester. Microfibre would also make a stunning maxi dress/skirt or a lovley new jacket.
