In todays blog we will be talking about the range of Two Tone Fabrics we have here at Calico Laine, and their uses in Dressmaking.
The Two Tone Fabrics that are extremely popular for Dressmaking and other craft projects are Taffetas and Cationic Chiffons:
- Taffeta - Taffeta comes from the Persian word to mean 'twisted woven'. The Taffeta we stock at Calico Laine is made from synthetic fibres, and is a crisp but smooth fabric that is most often used in the Dressmaking of Bridalwear and Ballgowns. It is a high quality fabric that is light in weight yet durable. Another use for Taffeta is in Home Interiors, and it is often used as an alternative to curtain lining and an individual wall covering. Taffeta is now even more popular for Dressmaking eveningwear due to its luxurious Two Tone colours. A stunning example of this is the Red Cherry Taffeta (no.13), which has red and blue tones that can alternate in different lights.
- Cationic Chiffon - This is a beautiful Two Tone fabric that is 100% polyester. It is ideal for Dressmaking, and looks and feels like real silk. It is often used as a layering material with the Taffetas, and is popular for making bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. It is also ideal to be used with other materials such as the range of Duchess Satins and Satin Back Crepes.
