I really enjoy dressmaking and have spend many happy hours working on new dresses and skirts. It just so happens working here at Calico Laine I also get access to some amazing new fabrics as soon as they arrive! In my entry today I am going to go through some of my favourite dressmaking fabrics and try to highlight why I like using them so much. I hope you enjoy :-)
  1. Double Knit Jersey: This is a beautiful fabric that I have used many times. It makes up wonderfully well and wash superbly. At 150cm wide it is perfect width for dressmaking with. This season we have some new Marl colours to this range.
  2. Duchess Satin: One of , if not the most popular dressmaking material available. Duchess Satin is so popular and as soon as you feel it you know why. It is a heavy matt fabric that is also 150cm wide. This year there are over 20 colours available.
  3. Taffeta:  A German made material, taffeta has made a real come back of late. I have in the past teamed taffeta up with a satin fabric to give my dresses an added look of sophistication.
The above fabrics I have chosen to talk here are amongst some of favourite fabrics. We do however have many many more fabrics available.  Please do take the time to have a look around our website. Remember we also offer a sampling service for our fabrics. This means that you can see the fabrics before you commit to buy full pieces. I hope you have enjoyed my entry today and as always please do feel free to leave a comment in the box below, Until next time, Calico Laine
